AI is very important in our current society and can play a big role in many activities. Most of our current AI is used in the work environment, but a lot of students in school use it to do their work. Students often rush to submit assignments just so they can get them over with. The students want to get these assignments turned in fast, so that they can just have the rest of the day to themselves. However, they don’t realize the risk of turning in assignments that they used AI for. Getting caught using AI comes with a huge risk. Some of those risks include: getting a zero on the assignment, having to redo the assignment, and even getting suspended. “AI is a powerful tool that can easily be misused. In general, AI and learning algorithms extrapolate from the data they are given” (Florence Gonsalves).
AI programs such as ChatGPT are beneficial due to their ability to finish challenging tasks quickly. ChatGPT is able to analyze massive amounts of information within a few seconds. Once it has analyzed the information, it can quickly answer any related thoughts and questions. When it comes to certain things like decision making, ChatGPT can be of use because it can provide ideas to help you finish writing. “The significance of AI lies within its ability to handle data and tasks at scales and speeds far beyond human capacity, which can lead to economic benefits and revolutionary advancements in daily life and science.” (csuglobal.edu)
While AI can be really useful, there can be consequences for using it.”We are already facing the negative outcomes of AI. For example, take recommendation algorithms for streaming services: the types of shows you see are influenced by the shows recommended to you by an artificial agent. More generally, today’s AI systems influence human decision making at multiple levels: from viewing habits to purchasing decisions, from political opinions to social values” (Florence Gonsalves). This evidence helps explain that although AI can be used for good, many people misuse it, and it could potentially be our downfall.
Stephen Hawking once said…
“The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race … It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete, and would be superseded.”
— Stephen Hawking
Even though AI is not too bad at the moment, it doesn’t mean that it couldn’t possibly go rogue on us in the near future.
