Since the first time in December of 1972, NASA has been sending human beings on a path toward the moon. The Artemis mission was very historical, carrying four astronauts around the moon. By successfully returning the crew to Earth, NASA provided they are ready to land people on the lunar surface. This mission marks a major step toward building a permanent base on the moon
While in space the Artemis 2 crew achieved many different things. The biggest thing they achieved was to orbit around the moon and land back on earth successfully testing the Orion rocket. They found out that the Orion shuttle/rocket would be able to handle space travel and had some flaws, but overall was good. The crew also took pictures of the dark side of the moon which was the first time we got pictures of the dark side of the moon. The crew tested the systems and found out most of them worked, besides the toilet. The crew made a safe landing and nobody was harmed (BBC.com).
The Artemis II mission was a huge milestone because it successfully carried four astronauts around the moon and back to earth for the first time in over fifty years. The mission had safely tested the Orion spacecraft’s air and water system while there was a human crew on board. The Orion spacecraft are a multi-purpose crew vehicle designed for deep space missions. During the Artemis mission the crew had broken records. This mission also proved that diverse international teams can work together to explore space. The success of the mission was very crucial, and this achievement cleared the way for future missions to land on the lunar surface and eventually Mars.
The Artemis II mission is just as historic as the first crewed flight in earth’s orbit since 1972. The 10 day mission allowed researchers to test the space launch system and Orion capsule with humans on board. The data gathered, including testing of the Orion Capsule, is crucial for the 2028 planned moon landing, which aims to put the first woman, and first person of color on the moon. The success of this mission marked a step in space exploration and will help establish humanity’s presence in outer space.
