On Wednesday, October 29th, a select few of our rangers embarked on Santa Rosa Academy’s once-a-semester trip to tour different California colleges. During this trip, students visited both the University of San Diego (USD), and San Diego State University (SDSU).
The first campus students arrived at was USD, a small-private university right across from Mission Bay, meaning it’s located right next to the beach and has views of Belmont Park and Sea World. The school is mostly known for its prioritizing of student research opportunities and study abroad programs. During the tour, students were led to various sites on campus to get a general idea of the community and learning environment. The campus’s old buildings and architecture provided an insight into the college’s history while still presenting a traditional academic atmosphere. Even so, the school is still adding new additions to the campus, with the most recent being the Knauss Center of Business Education.
After touring the first school, students arrived at SDSU and were escorted through the campus by a student tour guide. Students were able to see its new recreation center and older sports areas before being led through the different educational buildings. There are many sites and tributes around the campus to honor the Native American people who once inhabited the land. In fact, many aspects of the school are influenced by this culture, and in recent years the college has implemented the use of Aztec related symbols to represent themselves instead of a mascot. Overall, SDSU has many programs and opportunities for a variety of students and is presented as a great college for its inclusivity and favorable student population.
Do know that most students who go on these college tours sign up again in following years as they’re useful opportunities to see what college life is like. Not only that, but touring campuses and different cities helps students choose where to apply and gives them a better understanding of the way college works. While college isn’t for everyone, consider tagging along on one of these trips to help decide if college is right for you!
