On April 2nd, Olivia Rodrigo announced her third studio album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love”. The album is set to release on June 12th. This announcement was made on Rodrigo’s Instagram with the caption stating, “My third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out on June 12th,”. “I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it. available for preorder now!” The announcement also showed a picture of the album cover, which is Olivia wearing a pink outfit upside-down on a swing. In an interview with British Vogue Rodrigo described all the songs to be “sad love songs”, and then added, “I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”.
The anticipation for this album has been building up for weeks, with fans searching all over for clues. Not much is yet revealed about this album other than what she’s been teasing for about a month. Fans noticed the background of her website color changed and her “OR” logo. A mural appeared in Los Angeles with her new “OR” logo and the color of the wall progressively changing from purple to pink. This signaled a switch of eras for her, with her last two albums being purple and the new one being pink. Another teaser was a pink lock appearing in London with her logo and the word “April” inside.
Rodrigo has two past albums that have been huge successes with her first one releasing in 2021 with “Sour” and its lead single “Driver’s License. She then followed with “Guts” releasing in 2023, and performing at multiple music festivals last year. These two albums have already won her 3 Grammy’s and gotten her 14 nominations. With both of her past albums having a four letter title, fans expected for this one to follow the trend. There were multiple theories on what the title would be, the most popular one being love because it appeared on the mural.
