A24’s latest offering, “Civil War”, delivers a gripping cinematic experience that exceeds expectations on all fronts. From its beginning to its conclusion, the film captivates audiences with its intense narrative and stellar performances. At the heart of “Civil War” is its talented ensemble cast, whose portrayal of characters brimming with raw emotion elevates the film to unparalleled heights. Kristen Dunst’s captivating and powerful performance is particularly noteworthy, as she effortlessly embodies the complexities of her role of a veteran photographer, adding layers of depth to the narrative.

The film’s pacing is greatly executed, guiding the audience through its simple yet compelling premise without ever feeling rushed or weighed down by unnecessary distractions. Each scene serves a purpose, contributing to the overall impact of the story. Despite its title and thematic elements, “Civil War” refrains from taking a definitive political stance, instead choosing to focus on the human cost of conflict and the consequences of unchecked ambition. It confronts the horrors of war head-on, unflinchingly depicting the brutality and devastation caused by war.

Something that was missing from the film was the core of the story. In a film where a civil war is the main subject. Especially with the extreme tension in the upcoming election. A stronger understanding of why the U.S was in a “civil war” or how it became would have been very beneficial for the audience. Although this is the opinion of many it was the directors idea to not create “sides”. Alex Garland wanted the movie to show the brutality of war rather then have the audience choose a side.
“Civil War” is a film that goes past political boundaries, offering something of value to viewers from all walks of life. Whether drawn in by its powerful performances, its thought-provoking narrative, or its brutal depiction of war, audiences are sure to find themselves glued to the screen from start to finish.

In conclusion, “Civil War” is a must-see film that leaves a lasting impression long after the credits roll. With its gripping storytelling and standout performances, it solidifies its place as a standout addition to A24’s impressive collection of movies.
