Pets have become part of families. They are in people’s everyday lives. People dress them up, take them places, have them in their home, and much more. Pets bring so much joy to people’s lives. Three high school students talk about their animals.

Ninth grade student, Sophia Vigil who has two dogs and two tortoises talks about how old they are and what she loves about them. She responded with, “My oldest dog is nine and the other one is ten months. My oldest tortoise is three years and the youngest is two years. I’ve had all of my pets since they were first born. The tortoises are cool because they just eat and walk around. I love all my pets because they’re cute.”

Kristyn Sierra, a ninth grade student shares a little bit about her pets as well. She has two tortoises, three dogs, two rabbits, and a cat.

She mentions how old they are and how long she’s had them for. Sierra replied, “The dogs are 7, 5, and maybe 9. The cat is maybe 12, the tortoises are maybe 30 and 7. And the rabbits are 2 and 1 ½. I had my rabbits for 1 ½ (years), one of the tortoises maybe 19 and 2, the cat for maybe 9 years, the dogs for 10, 6, 3. The dogs like to watch T.V, the cat likes to chase moths, the rabbits like to eat lots of watermelon and the tortoises like to go back and forth in the backyard.”

She then describes what she admires about her animals. She responded, “ I love that my rabbits always come and play with me, I love that my dogs like to watch T.V with me, I love when my cat hangs out with me while I sleep, and I love that my tortoise always follows me when I tend to my plants.” This shows that pets are not just pets, they are companions for life. People have a special bond with their pets.

Another student shares about their pets. Abigale Adams, a Junior, has a black and white tabby cat who is four years old, a pit bull dog which is somewhere between 8-10, (maybe older), and a cornsnake who’s six.

She describes how long she’s had them and a little bit about them. She put it this way, “Had my cat her whole life, she was an outdoor cat the first year but became an indoor cat. For my snake, I only had him for a year, was with a friend previously. And for my dog, about 4-5 years I believe. My cat plays fetch with hair ties. My snake loves being picked up and comes to you. My dog clacks his teeth like he is cold for attention.”

This is Smokey, Abigale’s black and white tabby cat.

She also mentioned what she loves about her pets. She replied, “I love how cute my cat is and how photogenic she is. I love how my snake vibes with me. And I love it when my dog lays down and wiggles for pets.”

After hearing from a few students about their cats, dogs, rabbits, tortoises, and snake. There are so many different types of pets out there that people have. Pets overall are a lot of fun to have and play with.
