Santa Rosa Academy has introduced an exciting new opportunity for students: dual enrollment. This program allows our high school students to take college courses on the high school campus. The school is partnering with Mt. San Jacinto College to allow our SRA teachers to be dual teachers for specific courses.
One of the biggest advantages of dual enrollment is the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits at the same time. Each course that students decide to take provides three college units and ten high school units. These credits are also weighted, which means they can have a bigger impact on student GPAs. Better yet, the ability to take these courses will decrease the number of courses a student would need to take in college, saving time and money in the future.
Another huge advantage of dual enrollment is that it helps promote the want and need for students to take classes with their fellow classmates and stay on campus. Over the past few years there has been a problem with students not being in person at the school. Which overall creates a problem with the community we want and need in Santa Rosa Academy. So with the new addition of in person college classes it helps unite students and helps them accomplish more.
What classes will SRA offer for dual enrollment? SRA will offer several courses through MSJC, including English 101/103, Spanish 101/102, and Art 100/101. All courses will be taught on the campus of SRA.
Each class happens for one semester providing students more time to enroll in multiple classes throughout high school. Some of the teachers that will be involved with and teach this program include Ms. Cairns, Ms. Wathall, Ms. Herrera, and Ms. Perez.
Overall, dual enrollment at Santa Rosa gives students the opportunity for students to start their college education early. It helps improve GPA, earn college credits. And gain essential skills for future academic success. It will also create a loving community with our SRA students, Those interested in this, can get in touch with you counselors to get more information.
