Superintendent and CAASPP Award Information
Thursday January 30th, we had a formal day for all our high school students. Ninth through twelfth grade had to wear their formal attire (White Blouse and Navy bottoms) to attend our Character Assembly. One specific award was asked and talked about the most, some discussing how good it was to get it and others believing it was unimportant or simply that they didn’t understand it.
To briefly ensure students understand this award, the award is given to those with different scores on the CAASPP test. The awards being bronze, silver, and gold. Bronze is given to those who get straight threes on the CAASPP. Silver is given to those who received three, with the additional score of 4 in one category. Gold is handed out to the students that received all fours in all categories.
Although we know we receive scores and awards for these CAASPP tests, what is the real value to them? Well, to better understand this system, the CAASPP helps assist teachers, administrators, parents, and students to ensure they are on the right track. It helps students know what path they are on and whether or not they are ready to move on to the next level of learning. The California Department of Education stands by this fact, stating that “These assessments provide important information as to whether students are on track to pursue college and career by the time they graduate from high school. The tests provide timely and actionable student
information so that teachers and schools can adjust and improve teaching,” (cde.ca .gov).
We need this information to determine whether a student needs help. For those that want to go to college, this test can determine whether or not you are ready for college courses. Some colleges want to look at this information, so students must be aware of their scores and how well they do. The parent information form for CAASPP testing states the following on the right.
Additional information was provided by Mrs. Bradshaw, our Director of Educational Programs at Santa Rosa Academy. She described the CAASPP and the Superintendent Award, saying in her email “The CAASPP test is a valuable tool that helps us assess students’ learning levels and track their progress toward state standards. For charter schools, these assessments play an especially important role, as the results are a critical factor in reauthorization decisions. They demonstrate the effectiveness of our programs and the quality of education we provide.”
Coming to a close, people should care for the superintendent award and the CAASPP test. It could affect a lot if you really pay attention to what the CAASPP can do for you. Along with the additional award, which will get you in & out here at Santa Rosa Academy.
