Take Action Within Your Community
Be a Good Neighbor
Build connections within your neighborhoods, get to know the people that live beside you. Doing simple things like looking out for one another and showing kindness can go a long way, especially when people need it most. Showing your appreciation can be as simple as offering to help take in groceries, assisting with home projects like painting the fence, keeping your living space clean and organized, and coming together in times of need.
Volunteer Your Time
Taking the time throughout your days to maybe lend a helping hand with organizations like, The Western Science Center, The Hemet Community Pantry, Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, or the Food 4 Thought Pantry. Volunteering locally gives aid to so many families out there who need it, and organizations that help the community thrive. The Menifee Valley Community Cupboard shares, “Our primary mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition for our neighbors in need, by providing emergency non-perishable food at no cost to the homeless, seniors, families and the working poor who are experiencing tough times” (MVCC). The Menifee Youth Leaders Group also has weekly volunteer opportunities such as assisting with youth sports or helping host events at the Lazy Creek Recreation Center.
Donate What you Can
Clothes, food, water, tools, decor, silverware or cooking ware and more are all things that can be donated. Anything that hasn’t been used in a while, or doesn’t fit anymore? Things like those can all be donated to local thrift stores and similar organizations to aid those who are in need. Stores like, The Salvation Army and the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard are local organizations that can help you donate.
Support and get involved with local issues
Being an active member of a community also means to be informed. This includes knowing about current events within your community and city, and surrounding areas. A great way for parents specifically to get more involved with students is to follow along with The Lasso, Santa Rosa Academy’s very own student-staffed Journalism website, Menifee 24/7, or even any local school’s news. Santa Rosa Academy’s Lasso shares,”The Lasso, by SRA Press, is a student news source that aims to inform the student body of Santa Rosa Academy with unbiased perspective on current news, diverse opinions, updates on sports, clubs, honor societies and the people that make-up the SRA community.” (SRA Press). With all options considered, The Lasso is the best way to know what’s happening in your school community and get involved with local problems.
