The Santa Rosa Academy Rangers coasted past the San Jacinto Leadership Academy Lions in a 70-55 victory last Wednesday.
The Rangers started out the game strong amassing a six to zero lead quickly in the first quarter. The Lions responded with a deep three pointer from Jake Gagnepain tying the game, six to six. The Rangers clapped back with great defensive work and a strong offensive push capping off the first quarter with a comfortable ten point lead. The Lions started off the second quarter eager to take the lead but were unable to make any substantial plays ending the half down 30-37. The third quarter started and the Rangers looking to extend their lead did just that with junior Cory Moore kicking off the scoring streak. The Rangers defense held the Lions to only ten points ending the third quarter with a 51-40 lead. The Lions, who were put in a high stress situation ultimately cracked under the pressure letting up 19 points while only scoring 15. Giving the Rangers their tenth league win and improving their record to 16 wins and nine losses. Top scorers from the Rangers include senior Austyn Hopkins, sophomore Mycah Mason, and junior Cory Moore. Hopkins had an impressive game putting up 26 points with 12 rebounds making this his 11th double-double of the season.
The Rangers next game will be a home match, Friday January 31st vs the Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School Mustangs. This will be the third match-up vs the Mustangs this season as well as the Rangers Senior night. Girls varsity starts at 5:30 P.M. and boys varsity starts at 7:00 P.M.
