Humble, hardworking, and determined are some words used to describe senior quarterback Daniel Marlow. Marlow is currently the starting quarterback for the Santa Rosa Academy Rangers and is ranked 1st in California and 155th nationally for touchdowns.
However, Marlow wasn’t always in the spotlight, and his football journey is one of trial and error. His football journey started in 6th grade when he played for Santa Rosa Academy’s middle school flag football team. He continued this throughout middle school, and at the start of high school, Marlow joined the tackle football team.
Marlow played as a receiver his freshman year and the Rangers went 4-5 that season, losing 14-49 to Alhambra High School in the 1st round of the CIF playoffs. Just when things started to look up for Marlow, with him being the starting quarterback and heading into his sophomore season, tragedy struck.
In the first game of the season, Marlow tore his ACL and was told he would be out for the remainder of the season. He was devastated; everything he worked for was gone and all he could do was watch from the sidelines.
That year, the Rangers went on to have a 9-2 season losing 22-41 to Maranatha High School in the first round of the CIF playoffs. Reflecting back on his sophomore year, Marlow stated, “At first it was a bummer, but it helped me understand the game more and motivated me to work even harder at practice.”
Now going into his Junior year and with something to prove, Marlow bounced back tremendously leading the Rangers to their first CIF win ever, and finishing with a 7-5 record losing 12-21 to Artesia High School in round 2 of the CIF playoffs. Marlow would end this season off with 17 passing and 19 rushing touchdowns for 2618 total yards. Going into the offseason Marlow hit the weight room harder than ever and wanted to make his senior year one to remember.
Currently, the Rangers are 4-1 after battling San Bernardino High School down to the wire for a 54-27 victory. Marlow showed his dominance as a dual-threat Quarterback passing for 276 yards and rushing for 108 yards for a total of 384 yards.
Under the guidance of Marlow, the Rangers hope to be league champions this year and ultimately go on to win a championship. The Rangers have an exciting season ahead. Anyone who wants to support their next home game is on October 11th vs Trinity Classical Academy. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., and student tickets can be purchased online or at the door for $6. Come out and cheer on the Rangers!
