“In My Room” was written by Robert Hood Taylor, Kade Clayton, Devin Conner O’Neil, Chance Pena and Aiden Herring. This song franchises the struggle of moving on, and the feelings of the person who has been left behind by a loved one. The lyrics also suggest that within the deep connection of the protagonist and the loved one, is the feeling of reality and in its struggle to move on or accept the sudden departure. Lyrics such as, “Said your friends didn’t want you but I swear I do”, suggests unconditional support and ‘safe haven’ from the protagonist towards the loved one, as if the protagonist was not enough to make the loved one stay. Junior Daniel Orea said about the song, “I remember when I listened to this song for the first time. I was vulnerable from an ex and I felt sort of worthless in a way. All I could think about was how bad it felt at the time. The song itself didn’t make me stop feeling those things, but it did make me think about the whole thing logically which hurt less.”
In the closing lines of the song, “ My love, where did ya go? where’d you go?” specify the longing and the heartbreak towards the protagonist as they struggle to move on. “In My Room”describes the process of how someone moves on from a relationship that the other person doesn’t reciprocate anymore. “To keep the old habit of ‘counting stars’ even after the person the singer did it with is no longer physically with them is something that was similar to the way I moved on from a previous relationship of mine.” Orea laments. “The song and the feeling are incredibly personal to me.” “In My Room” is very relatable to evolving relationships or friendships. This song expresses the pain of being left behind by someone, how loving them can make it the difficulty of moving on, the introspective writing paints the melancholic and actuality towards the phases of change.
“The chords and strumming technique feel very nostalgic and the vocals are not only fitting but also strangely beautiful. Chance Peña does an excellent job in making this track one to remember.” Junior Corrin Santolucito said.
