The “SUPERBOWL OF FASHION,” is what all the fashion-fanatics call the annual Met Gala, an event where some of the biggest names in entertainment represent some of the biggest brands in fashion. The Met Gala is an annual charity event thrown by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. The gala marks the opening of the spring fashion exhibition, and is co-hosted by prominent figures in fashion.
Since 1995, Anna Wintour, the Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Magazine has been calling the shots, this year she partnered with Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton to bring what many consider one of the best years in fashion history. The theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style with the dress code “Tailored For You.” The gala celebrated the legacy of Black dandyism and the impact it left in the world of fashion.

The oscar-winning actress wore a beautiful custom Chanel, pale sea-foamed green tailored suit that modeled the craft of discipline and ancestry. The color was believed by Aztec, Ancient Egyptians, and many South American civilizations to represent good fortune and peace.

Making her Met Gala debut, Grammy winner Doechii wore a Pharrell Williams–Louis Vuitton designed short suit. Covered with the Louis Vuitton logo, Doechii came hand-in-hand with a mini Speedy bag and a cigar, paying homage to André Leon Talley, a black american journalist most known for being the first male black editor of Vogue Magazine.

The actress most known for her breakout role as Liz Allen in Spider-Man: Homecoming wore a Zac Posen design representing the early literacy years of Dandy. Each part of her outfit represents Harrier’s heritage and was inspired by photos of her father and grandfather.

Addams Family actress, came bold and ready wearing a dress full of Balmain rulers inspired by the art of tape and ruler tailoring. The dress, designed by Oliver Rousteing, was solely created on rulers that pattern makers use to create fashion pieces.

The singer wore a regal cream and white Manish Malhorta with ornate embroidery modeling a floral design that covered the entire outfit.

The American Rapper/Singer wore a unique illusory Thom Browne and Paul Tazewell suit that honored the Dandy style

The British actress arrived in a custom Burberry piece that was inspired by Selika Lazevski, a black horsewomen in Belle Epoque during the 1800s.

The actress and singer made a stunning appearance in an Ugo Mozie dress with a 18-foot long train adorned with feathers. The train featured embroidered names of all of her children and grandchildren.

The korean singer and Chanel Ambassador stunned the runway in an outfit that looked straight from the popular film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Coming in at number one, Teyana Taylor, who also opened the Met Gala and left the standards in the sky. The actress wore a stunning suit that any historian would delight in. The suit was custom made by Ruth E. Carter.

Starting off the guys strong, Bridgerton actor, Rege-Jean Page attended the gala wearing a vintage yet timeless red suit Brioni.

The actor and rapper rocked a orange custom Culture suit with a floor-length with gold accents. Henry blended his Nigerian style with a more modernized look and looked stunning while doing it.

The “White Lotus” star looked like he had just come out of a Star Wars movie, the custom look by Thom Browne.

Tony nominated and a part of the Met Gala Host committee, Jeremy O. Harris wore jewelry that represented the Black lineage. Drawing inspiration from, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

The unexpected TikTok sensation made his Met Gala debut wearing a timeless suit by BOSS. The tiktok star fittingly wore a clocks up and down his vest that had been found across three flea markets

#1. Colman Domingo

Styling 2 outfits, Colman Domingo looked like royalty, dressed in a full Valentino outfit. The first half of the carpet, Domingo wore a beautiful royal blue robe with a white and gold bolero. The 2nd half, he switched the robe for a black and white plaid ensemble with gray slacks. His inspiration for his looks? The 2009 Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by Monica L. Miller, who also helped Domingo create his eye-catching looks throughout the evening.
