After 15 months of long conflict between Israel and Palestine due to the 2023 October 7th terrorist attack in which Hamas terrorists launched an attack on southern Israel targeting nearby Israeli communities in which 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 Israeli hostages were taken back to Gaza. In January 2025 a multi-phase between Israel and Hamas has been agreed to which will halt hostilities to primarily address Palestinian humanitarian abuses and needs as well as hostage exchanges. The agreement was brokered by Egypt and Qatar serving as mediators.
Phase one:
Six week cessation of fighting in all capacities.
Hamas at this time Jan 23 has committed to releasing 33 Israeli hostages starting with women and children.
Israel agreed to free 1,650 Palestinian Civilians.
Israeli forces began withdrawing from Gaza attempting to establish buffer zones to return Gaza back to displaced Palestinians.
Aid deliveries to the Palestinians are being allowed in to address critical supply shortages to the Palestinian people.
Phase two:
Hamas has agreed to release the rest of the Israeli hostages numbering in 65 confirmed alive.
Israel has plans to further withdraw troops from areas such as Netzarim and the Gaza Egypt border.
A new deal will be agreed upon by both sides to hopefully eliminate fighting for the foreseeable future. These plans involve rebuilding Gaza from the ground up with these plans being early in development. Humanitarian organizations are assessing the current situation in Gaza as well as the health of the Israeli hostages. Medical teams are standing to provide immediate care to the Palestinians, while both Israel and Gaza are grappling with the long term side-effects of the most recent iteration of the conflict and the Israeli governments Genocide of the Palestinians as-well as the deaths of many Israeli hostages and civilians caught in the crossfire.
