The highly anticipated boxing game, Undisputed, has now been released for 3 days. It has a tremendous amount of hype being the first boxing game released in 14 years. The last boxing game was EA Sports Fight Night Champion released on April 26, 2010, and it was an absolute gem. Fight Night Champion was rated to be the best-ever boxing game by fans. So, Undisputed had a lot to live up to. So the big question is, did it?
Undisputed’s deluxe edition was released on October 8th, three days early from the normal edition. The deluxe edition included DLC boxers like Caleb Plant, Regis Progrias, Dimitry Bivol, and more. It also came with extra fight kits for big-name boxers like Clarrisa Shields and Canelo Alvarez. The most important part of the deluxe edition was the 3-day early access.
I purchased the deluxe edition, and when I first booted up the game, I was blown away. The load-in screen with Canelo was an amazing visual. Once you get to the main menu, it’s simplistic and has great visuals. The first thing I did was check the roster, which contains over 70 licensed boxers who all have amazing models.
However, when I picked my first fight I couldn’t help but notice the gameplay problems. When the fighters first walk out, it’s not even a full walkout in other games like the UFC games they walk five feet and it goes to the next fighter. When the fight begins the animations feel slow and sloppy, landing punches doesn’t feel rewarding unless you use the power punch feature. Sometimes the block feature doesn’t work and there are ghost punches where the other fighter will swing and miss but it will still take down your health.
All and all, Undisputed has a lot of potential and is a great game with some gameplay updates. The visuals are all there they just need to add more fighters and clean it up.
The game developers have announced they will be doing a big update in December.
