Santa Rosa Academy Cadet Corps attended the drill competition that took place on March 2nd, 2024. LMA and Badger Springs schools competed to go to the state finals. Cadets are expected to have their uniforms checked by drill sergeants and sergeants.
Neima Moore, a freshman, expressed, “An enjoyable learning experience and I would love to do it again.”
The first thing that happened at the drill competition was uniform inspection. As every school went up everyone was expected to wear their class B uniform and have boots. Cadets were expected to look forward to parade rest and to not have any facial expressions.
Sophomore Jesus Molina says, “Our tireless practice was rewarded, and we got to send a team to state.”
The first competition was the normal unarmed drill. As the schools went up they were being carefully judged with every movement. After the schools went up they would have to wait until every single event happened for the schools to be given their places.
As the competitions went on LMA had an armed drill team and an execution drill. The teams were tough and everyone would be quiet when the teams went up. As the people went up the judges were making sure to evaluate every move to make sure that the students would get good points.
Before the judges announced the winner they had a drill off. A drill-off is where cadets are given commands but some of them are not real commands. Every single cadet even if they weren’t participating went in the challenge.
After the competition, the judges try to have all of the points counted and what school did well. One of the students from LMA was going to announce the competition winners. The middle school color guard from SRA received first place and the high school placed third for color guard.
That concludes the events that took place at Drill Comp 2024.
