City Girls are a music duo, who thrive off and base their songs on money, partying, etc. Yung Miami (Caresha Romeka Brownlee) and JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson), born in Opa-Locka and Liberty City, Florida, gave themselves the name “City Girls.”

Yung Miami and JT met in middle school and often found themselves in fights against other girls, later on inspiring them to create music from their experiences. In 2017, City Girls made an appearance in the music industry and, only then, did Yung Miami and JT’s music career really start to catch more of the audiences attention.

In 2018, JT turned herself in for fraudulent credit card charges and, whilst in her two-year sentence, Yung Miami continued to create music for City Girls. At first these women started with their projects to Period, Girl Code, and Breakthrough (2018-2019). The increase in bookings and music deals garnered them more attention by more popular artists.

City Girls ended up making a guest appearance on Drake’s single “In My Feelings” 2018, and, by then, City Girls had become more mainstream. City Girls are known for their authenticity, uncensored and unapologetic profile towards the music industry, inspiring their audience in the process.

Presently, with both members together, completing City Girls, have decided to release yet another new album. , RAW was released for the world. RAW has ensured an 18-song track listing, preceded by 5 singles. “Good Love” (July 1, 2022) featuring Usher, “ I Need a Thug” (June 8, 2023), “Piñata” (June 9, 2023), “No Bars” (July 14, 2023), and “Face Down” (August 25, 2023). These are the leading songs in this album which also enlists guest appearances of Juicy J, Lil Durk, Muni Long and Kim Petras.

On the other hand, outside sources say City Girls will break up after this new album. Kiki’s Tea, a youtube creator, holds a Billboard interview(s), quoting that “ City Girls are breaking up after releasing one last album”.

Though JT mentions that she wishes to pursue a solo career, Yung Miami is not ready for this change and doesn’t understand her reasoning. JT later on unfollowed the City Girls Official on Instagram, rumors got really strong during this time.

“Hopefully, the future of the City Girls can be the City Girls. I pray that our egos does not like separate it. Or the internet. Or a guy,” JT mentions in an interview.

On the internet, an interviewer wrote, “Now, with her first EP imminent, JT is looking to make money moves as a solo artist.”

City Girls does not seem very likely that they will stick together, “ JT going solo is so good for her because I can tell she actually [cares] about the music and isn’t using it as a side hustle” Killa Kenz, a content creator, mentions.

The fans are pro JT and seem to be supporting her the most. Only time will tell what the future brings for this music duo.
