The Next Chapter: Where Are SRA Seniors Going to College?

Seniors,

I think it’s safe to say that the start of our high school journey was a crazy one, to say the least. For some perspective, let me take you back to 2020, a year like no other. We thought it was the start of a normal new decade to come. This was until tragedy struck with the COVID-19 pandemic starting and uprooting everyone’s lives. We went from attending school or work every day, to now learning how to learn and work remotely from home. This was the year when so many things changed for everyone worldwide, especially high school students. Class of 2020 didn’t get a graduation and a proper end to their high school years due to the pandemic, and Class of 2024 didn’t get a bona fide start to their high school career.

But now, we are here. 4 years later and Class of 2024 is finally gearing up for graduation. Isn’t it crazy that almost four years ago we all attended our first high school class on Zoom and now we are graduating and heading off to the next chapter of our lives? It’s amazing to think about. Speaking from personal experience, senior year has been filled with various emotions. The idea of deciding what you are going to do with the rest of your life is harrowing to think about.  It’s a good feeling to know that these feelings of uncertainty have subsided and now there’s a sense of pride and joy looking forward to our futures. Being that we are in the final weeks of high school, I decided to highlight seniors and where they will be going to college for the next four years.

Iris Alvizar Valles: University of La Verne
Iris Alvizar Valles: University of La Verne

“ I chose the University of La Verne because of their biomedical sciences program. At La Verne, I am a step closer to reaching my future endeavors in the medical field while pursuing a sports career in golf.”

Gracie Raxter:  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Prescott

“ I believe that Embry-Riddle is the best choice for me because they value education and students are very supported from the moment they step on campus to after they are employed.”

Faith Krueger: Colorado Christian University

Jaclyn Randolph: Cal Poly Pomona

“I chose Cal Poly Pomona because it has a great computer science program and impressive connections for job opportunities.”

Donovan Curran: MSJC

“I chose MSJC because it has the pathway/classes I want for my career.”

Amaya Thomas: Hawaii Pacific University

“I chose this college because I am majoring in marine biology and going to Hawaii is one of the top places for that field of study.”

Ava Kanehl: MSJC
Ava Kanehl: MSJC

“I chose MSJC because I want to pursue a degree that takes 6 years, and in the long run community college for the first two years works best for me both financially and what I want to study. I’m excited to see all sorts of walks of life in one place too.”

Boston Page: Boston University

“Ever since I was young I’ve wanted to go to college in Boston (for one it’s my namesake, two I have a lot of family in that area, and three it is a hub for science and engineering). BU is a school that is in a great area of the city (right next to Fenway) and while it was a reach, it was attainable with my grades and extracurriculars. Plus, BU’s College of Engineering is well respected but on the smaller side compared to other majors, which means that my classes would be more intimate, which I personally prefer.”

Ryan Galvan: Simpson University

“I chose this college to continue my wrestling career, I have committed to wrestle for Simpson University.”

Dariana Alviso: Army
Dariana Alviso: Army

“I chose the army because I felt like it could be a good fit for me. They will pay 100% for my education, I will learn new things that will benefit me later on in the future.”

Rylee Odom: Cal State Fullerton
Rylee Odom: Cal State Fullerton

“I chose Cal State Fullerton because I liked that the campus feels super secure and they have a lot of good programs and opportunities! I also feel Fullerton has a good social life aspect to it and gave great financial aid.  I love that the  location is familiar to me as I grew up near Fullerton and the fact that it is very close to home for me.“

Danielle Okogho: University of California, Berkeley
Danielle Okogho: University of California, Berkeley

“I chose UC Berkeley because of the amazing opportunities I will be given while attending this school. I also loved the campus and the atmosphere of the place. I am very excited about the job connections I can forge while attending this school!”

To all the seniors out there, be proud of yourself for getting to this place in life where you are graduating from high school and are heading off to the next part of your journey. This is a huge accomplishment that cannot be understated. Whether you are attending a four-year college or not, please know that whatever you do in life go in with the notion that you can do anything you put your mind to, after all, you made it this far! Congratulations to the Class of 2024 and I hope all our futures are bright and glorious!
