On Thursday, August 29, the high school counselors, Mrs. Hughes, and Mrs. Aguirre, delivered an informational presentation for the class of 2026. The main focuses of the presentations were yearbook purchases, community service projects, graduation requirements and aeries, MSJC college courses, and Junior events.
Yearbooks will be on sale for 80$ until October 31st, and then the price will increase as time passes, so make sure you put your orders in now. You can order your yearbooks at yearbookforever.com.
The next thing they announced was the requirements for the community service project. The community service project is one of SRA’s graduation requirements. Students must upload a project proposal through a Google form and then must check in with the counselors throughout the year through the process of completing your project. Your project must beneficially impact an organization or person such as a war veteran, school, hospital, church, etc. Your project proposals must be submitted and approved by September 30th, 2024. Students will receive, an email informing them if their project proposals have been approved or denied.
You are NOT allowed to work with other students on this project.
They may help you the actual day of your project but they will not receive any credit for attending and helping. The counselors emphasized that the more information and detail in your project proposal the better. Your portfolio for your project must be spiral bound and you must create a tri-fold board (36”x48”) to be put on display. Any other information on the Junior community service project is available on the junior page of the website. There you will find the slides from the information night, and the project requirements.
The next thing that the counselors spoke about was graduation requirements. Here at SRA, the counselors want all students to meet the A-G requirements that are necessary to attend a CSU or UC college. If you plan on attending a private or out-of-state college, then the counselors will help put you on a path to get you there, but it is up to you as a student to do your research. The counselors suggest that students make a college board account to help them get started with planning a career path. PSAT’s will also occur this year for Juniors. If you have any other questions, the counselor’s contact information is on the SRA website. MSJC college courses were also mentioned during this meeting. If you are interested in taking college courses, then you must get approval from the counselors by filling out a form, and then your parents. After these forms are filled out from the school, you must enroll at the college. As a college student it is your responsibility to meet deadlines for enrolling in classes, etc. The counselors are more than happy to walk you through the process if necessary. The last thing that was discussed was Junior events. Below is a list of dates for Juniors.
