The NFL 2023-2024 season has been one of the better seasons in recent memory. Some fans have been left heartbroken while others are ecstatic with the season’s results. The NFL playoff season only consists of 14 teams, which leaves many disinterested fans, and those whose teams do make it only partially pay attention to the post-season games.
That being said, with Super Bowl 58 quickly approaching here’s a recap of the playoffs for anyone that may not have followed along.
Round 1: The playoffs started with a bang, the match-up between the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans was the most significant game as rookie quarterback, CJ Stroud, had a historic rookie performance in a playoff game. Stroud went 16/21 on passes, threw for 274 yards, threw for three touchdowns, and had an incredible 157.2 pass rating. This amazing effort helped lead his team to the big 45-14 victory.
Divisional Round: The competition intensified as the established powerhouses faced off in battles that would determine the contenders for the coveted Conference Championship. The game was a clash of offensive juggernauts and defensive greatness, with unexpected heroes emerging to secure their team’s passage to the next round. The highlight game of this round was the Kansas City Chiefs vs the Buffalo Bills. Both of these teams have had a heated rivalry in recent years that has always ended in close games. This game was going to be a battle of QBs. The Bills came into the game as the favorite with everyone’s big question being if Josh Allen could finally pull off a win against Patrick Mahomes. Allen’s regular season record against Mahomes is 3-1, but when it comes to the playoffs Mahomes holds an undefeated record against Allen at 3-0. The Chief’s defense showed up and stopped the Bills in a 27-24 win.
The Conference Championship: The game brought together the best of the best playing for a ticket to the grand stage of the Super Bowl. In a game of inches, pivotal plays and strategic decisions proved to be the difference-makers. The Kansas City Chiefs played an underdog game against the one-seeded Baltimore Ravens where the defense showed up once again in a 17-10 win. The San Francisco 49ers played a tough game – they were the big favorite against the Detroit Lions. While the Lions unexpectedly came out and had a 21-point lead, the 49ers pulled through and came back with the win.
The big game is finally here – we are less than two weeks away from Super Bowl 58. The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will be facing off in the Super Bowl for the second time in the last four years.
This will be the third consecutive playoff game where the Chiefs are the underdogs. The 49ers have been the favorite to win the Super Bowl all season and are favored by two points.
Will we see a dominant win from the favorite or will we see the Chiefs and Mahomes stop the 49ers? We will finally find out this Sunday, February 11, 2024 as the two teams face off at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
